Week 1

Intro – Monday
I am introduced to the class and am given preparation for the upcoming modules as a new student to the program this semester. We will be taking on a game concept from the previous semester created by another student. We are assigned an online form to request which group and game concept we would like to be assigned to, I have no preference as I have no experience in the class.

Learning to use blackboard, Seats and support recourses. Along with learning what a Vertical Slice is in game development and its importance. A vertical slice is compared to an Alpha state of a game, a concept before the game comes together to prove to investors and producers that the game is viable.


Assigned Group and Game Project
– Thursday
I am assigned to work on the Kinetic Panic Concept by Parker a 3D platformer where you control a rolling ball character through open expansive levels. I am assigned to the role of 3D character artists but am swapped with environment artist to better fit my expertise. This role will involve me creating various parts of structures in Blender and exporting them for the Level Designer (Guy).

Much of this class was the group going through the Kinetic Panic GDD site and seeing what we can keep or should change for our games Vertical Slice.


Writing down tasks for Game Project – Thursday / Friday
The group have created the project scope narrowing the project to a single level being Parkers initial concept of a rooftop metropolis involving large skyscrapers and roof patios. We are tasked as. a group to very specifically write each task in great detail for our entire project.
