Doll character Ines
Before actually making to game, I only had some scatter idea about this character. She is like a positive version of Makenah. Makenah is the happy one, energetic while Ines is clam and sleepy/slow. This was the rough concept art of her

As she is sleepy, I will like to have her in a sleeping gown. During seamster 1, teachers suggested me to look at real kid dolls/ kid’s clothing to instead of designing things that I find beautiful in my mind. This could make my art match our childish, kids doll themes in the best way
(P.s. I was designing Makenah’s first outfit in my old way and that made her first outfit unsatisfying! I learnt and improve for this time ! )

Kid’s sleeping gown and doll in a sleeping gown that I was looking at

First draft
Some Children/ kid’s doll wear a sleeping hats as accessories, and since Ines is a French girl, I designed a bonnet for her.
In my concept art, the bonnet that Ines were wearing was too heavily decorated. The massive use of laces and ribbons looked like the concept I had before working with Esi (nature x handcraft, characters with luxurious outfit). In order to match with our theme, I decided to make the bonnet simple, let the design be in simple shapes and focus more on “color”
Heart shape, circle, triangle buttons are to match our theme

Second draft
I redesigned the upper part of the collar as I think my first draft was lack of creativity, I added some daisy flowers to surround the buttons, mixing our nature theme into the outfit. I also withdrew the ribbons besides her ears to make it even simpler. She wears a pair of socks instead of shoes, I also added details to the sleeve.

Colors and shadow
The color pink and purple go really well together, I just think the colors should be brighter, so I paint the color thicker. While I was adding the color, I suddenly came with an idea of patterned socks. The shapes on the socks are same as her button, it turned out really nice.

Play Test 2

We were glad to have Jordan for our play test this time, there were few points that he needed us to work with
- Add a BGM for the opening, it looks plain for just narrative
- Like the general cute aesthetic of the game. Feel it from the main menu
- Narrative needed to be done
- The button “E” needed to be fixed to full access, players could only interact with the dialogue/ characters by holding the mouse onto the images
Things that I am going to work with
- Finish the BGM at the beginning, make it ambient
- Have more UI designs ready. Esi is busy with fixing the bugs at the moment, for now, I will first leant what my mistakes from my last sprint, have something in mind of what design we need and quicly work on the drafts
UI that needed to be done
- Setting logo
- Narrative box
- Menu sheet (redesign the menu sheet/ add doodles to replace the old drawings from semester 1)
- Setting box in the setting menu
Reflection:
It was a short sprint, a final boost of the character art. There are still lots of things that needed to be done of the project, such as UI, BGM, our trailer, gameplay record. I think characters and environment had took up too much time, but through these practice, I am more familiar with digital pencil/ watercolor art, I have the confidence to work faster on my next sprint
