Hair braiding x bjd + Nature x handcrafts
In one of our group feedback section Adam suggested Esi and I work together as we are sharing similar game ideas.
| Me | Esi | |
| Mechanic | Bobbin lace | Hair braiding |
| Narrative | Don’t have much idea | Childhood trauma (Have a well developed idea) |
| Characters’ body structure: Head-to-body proportion | 1:4 | BJD body structure (large head, small body) |
| Environment | Handcraft x nature fantasy world | salon |
We are trying to combine our ideas together and make a game about the protagonist braiding their doll’s hair and making handcrafts (accessories and body ceramic) for them
It is a brainstorm mind map of how we combine our ideas together

Decision for our concept

Our game pitch: “You play as an imaginative little girl helping to maintain your dolls and their village that you created using arts and crafts supplies. Help them with their tasks: cut shapes out of paper, braid hair, and paint while you learn more about their lives. The fantasy is perfect — until conversations from the real world start seeping in, and eventually, you are forced to confront your reality.”
Decision of our roles:
Me: Programmer, Environment Artist (2D), Character Designer, UI Designer, BGM Designer
Esi: Programmer, Environment Artist (3D), Narrative Designer, BGM designer
Game Idea Presentation
We were glad to have our Music student join our presentation, so I wrote a short music to test with the aesthetic of my game, and Esi prepared a song list.
On what we done for the presentation:
Me: Rough concept art of character and Hair braiding + handcraft +nature environment.

Change of concept
After our presentation, Esi messaged me on Discord, she said she wanted to change a few things of our game concept. (And I am happy to change :))
- Art style, environment and character design to be childish (her original idea) instead of elegant (my idea).
As our story is about childhood, elegant design may be irrelevant to our concept. - Get rid of the idea of Ball joint dolls.
As our protagonist is an ordinary little girl in about the age of 8, Ball joint dolls are expensive, sort of a luxury toy. That girl will not have the concept of ball joint dolls or even own multiple ball joint doll. Instead, make our doll characters ordinary kid dolls (keeping the design of body structure), but get rid of the idea of expensive BJDs

New table for the change of concept
Grey = concept before, and now is withdrawn
Red = new idea
