Layer 5 – Crafted house island + quilling lake 3
Crafted house – I think little girls like Karimah would love small house in their imaginary world so I had it, I used purple, yellow, orange, brown and baby blue 5 colors in total to make it eye- catching. Those “windows” were drawn, I made unsymmetrical to look more like kid’s art, so as the cartoon flower and heart.

Paper roll rabbit – cardboard cylinder craft is a sustainable craft, those cylinders are usually finished tissue paper’s leftover. There are lots of creativity way to redesign them but I am picking paper roll animals which is easier for kids. We draw animals’ ears, hands and tails on a color card, then glue them onto rolls, after that, we draw faces on the cylinder.

Layer 6 – Chenille stems trees island
Chenille steams trees – These trees are inspired by kid craft material, chenille steams, we twisted single, multiple stems to form shapes.
I think it is a good idea to make them as trees because they are colorful, they light up this fantasy world by filling many of them.

I designed the leaves into different shape is to more relatable to children, as kids like Karimah are learning about shapes at school.
Crafted fences – People use drawn craft sticks and rubber bands to make small crafts, Those craft sticks reminds me of the fence as have similar shapes. They inspired me to design a crafted fence. Shapes on ensembles childish aesthetic and imitates holes on fences, rubber bands and daisy flower as decoration.

Paper roll cat – a different type of paper roll animal, the crafting method is basically the same, but requires 4 paper rolls. The purpose of this figure is to make this island looks more lively

Wood beads/ hair ring – they are signature hair accessories of African braids, ensembles our hair braiding theme.

Layer 7-quilling lake 4
Layer 8-Pom pom/ Chenille stems trees + quilling lake 5
This island is mixing ideas I had before in other layers, pom pom/ hair braid trees, chenille stems trees, but changed a bit details and added some new creativities.
Cartoon shrub – adding layers to the island and make it more childish
Paper roll house – Not only animals, paper towel can also be made into houses. For its foundation, I recreated the structure of a paper roll, cut in half. For its roof, it is a fold “strawberry” paper to make it playful.

Layer 9- Textile collage mountains
When I was researching about craft on the other day, I frond this textile book mark looks like a mountain, it inspired me to design mountains with sewing elements.

I was trying to see more similar ideas, and I found out artist do not just have threads and clothes for textile collage! They have glass beads, buttons and even sequins, just like what we see on designer clothes. I am introducing what art and craft I have applied in each mountain

Layer 10-Playful clouds
The last layer will be the clouds on sky, they are inspired by cartoon clouds, I added some amusing facial expressions on two of them to make the environment more playful and lively
