For week 3, we were to present our topics. I was third-to-last, which was nerve-wracking going after so many excellent ideas and topics, but I managed to get some lovely and very comprehensive feedback! People seemed to like my research topics, and brought up some excellent points in the notes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next we were to refine down our topics and pick just one – maybe two, if they fit together. I found myself stuck between Monsters and Paradoxes. On one hand, Monsters was a broad category I felt certain I could easily come up with many game ideas for (in fact I already had several ideas already). On the other, Paradoxes felt more unique, and I really wanted to explore what a paradox would look like in a game, either visually, narratively, or as a game mechanic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I fielded this dilemma to my classmates, and by the end of the day, I’d come to the decision I was going to pick Monsters. While Paradoxes were a cool, fun idea, I was not confident on my ability to execute a game with that premise well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So next I compiled all the comments about my Monster section:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TUESDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, I began my further research on Monsters. While originally stuck on what to do (I felt like I’d already researched many monsters, and researching even more felt like an impractical use of time), I eventually settled on finding the psychological, sociologically, and historical impact of them. Why we create monsters, what superstition means to a culture, and how horror came to be the genre it is. This ended up being fascinating to research!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THURSDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuing my further research, I’d already finished the psychological and sociological aspect, and how it tied into the horror genre. Now I looked into the historical points, and how the idea of “Monsters” have changed over the course of history, especially with the oncoming age of the internet where anyone can fact-check each other. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
