It is a natural and often helpful emotional response to stress, and can arise in various situations, such as before a big event or a challenging task. Anxiety can be short-lived and relatively mild, or it can become more persistent and intense, which may interfere with daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Physical Symptoms<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heart palpitations or a racing heart<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sweating<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shaking or trembling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dizziness or feeling lightheaded<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Muscle tension or headaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dry mouth or difficulty swallowing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Emotional and Psychological Symptoms<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Excessive worry or fear, often about things that may or may not happen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restlessness or feeling &#8220;on edge&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Irritability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty concentrating<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sense of impending doom or fear of losing control<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cognitive Symptoms<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Racing thoughts or constant rumination about worst-case scenarios<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty thinking clearly or focusing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perception that things are out of your control<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Anxiety Types:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)- Chronic and excessive worry about everyday situations, often without any specific trigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Panic Disorder- Recurrent, unexpected panic attacks that cause a sudden onset of intense fear or discomfort. Symptoms include rapid heartbeat, chest pain, sweating, and a sense of losing control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Social Anxiety Disorder- Intense fear of social situations, particularly situations where one may be judged or scrutinized by others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phobias- An irrational, intense fear of specific objects, situations, or activities, such as heights, spiders, or flying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)- Recurrent, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) performed to reduce anxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)- Anxiety symptoms that develop after a person has experienced a traumatic event, such as a natural disaster, war, or serious accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Anxiety causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Genetics- A family history of anxiety or other mental health conditions can increase the likelihood of developing anxiety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brain chemistry- An imbalance of neurotransmitters or other chemicals in the brain may contribute to anxiety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Environmental stressors- Life events such as trauma, major life changes, financial stress, or chronic illness can trigger or exacerbate anxiety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personality- People with certain personality traits, such as being more sensitive to stress or having a tendency to worry, may be more prone to anxiety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Managing anxiety:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or mindfulness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exercise to release tension and improve mood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help reframe negative thought patterns and behaviors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medication: In some cases, doctors may prescribe anti-anxiety medications or antidepressants to help manage symptoms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social support: Talking to friends, family, or a therapist can provide emotional relief and practical coping strategies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Statistics:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"743\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/jr16g23\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/01\/IMG_0191.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-801\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/jr16g23\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/01\/IMG_0191.png 1000w, https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/jr16g23\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/01\/IMG_0191-300x223.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/jr16g23\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/01\/IMG_0191-768x571.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1400861\/percentage-of-individuals-reporting-symptoms-of-stress-depression-anxiety-by-age-group-worldwide\/\">https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1400861\/percentage-of-individuals-reporting-symptoms-of-stress-depression-anxiety-by-age-group-worldwide\/<\/a> Shows a graph with different age groups and what perecentage are affected by stress, anxiety and depression. <br>In this graph you can see in 2022 the group with the highest percentage is ages 18-24. <br>With this in mind I can create a character based around this age range.<br><br><strong>TED Talk:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-ted wp-block-embed-ted wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Wendy Suzuki: How to calm your anxiety, from a neuroscientist\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.ted.com\/talks\/wendy_suzuki_how_to_calm_your_anxiety_from_a_neuroscientist\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this TED talk it is discussed how to calm your anxiety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this video it states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Breathwork- Allows neurochemicals to spread throughout your body<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Movement- Going for a walk, dancing etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How is this research helpful?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From all this research I can begin to come up with ideas and mechanics for my games. To give that essential experience I want players to feel I need to understand Anxiety fully.
