Works at Limit break – encourage people to get into art

Games jobs live – as a freelance data researcher

Chapel arts studios – creative programmes coordinator 

Talked about the normality of working other jobs whilst getting into the industry – she worked at neros before getting into the games industry

Helped contribute to simply safe game which helped break into industry which lead to a job for a gambling games company 

Whilst working and helping with the games charity she is doing a masters for animation where she works with physically disabled people creating and drawing proesthetics.

Went into university just for the fact she wanted to stay at university, didnt know anything about games, wasnt amazing at art but once she went through university she worked on her art and skills to tried and get into the industry

She utilised learning platforms to help determine what she does well and what she doesn’t so she could learn to develop upon her skills. 

Encourages mentorships as they helped flesh out what she wanted to do and develop her skills.

She then went on to talk about making sure you expand on what you do, so if youre a game artist, that encompasses alot, so what specifically? Character artist, creature artist, environment artist etc etc. 

She encouraged not finding a style but find a thing, something youre passionate about.

Further talking about portfolio she encouraged us to look at other artists portfolios and help build our portfolios that way.

When creating a character portfolio, make sure to include things like, anatomy, turnarounds, poses / expressions, texture callouts. Also said not to waste time on a portfolio by having same design but with multiple colour palettes, art directors will just pick and choose what they like

For a environment portfolio she highlighted the importance or demonstrating perspective, showing process, orthographics, full keys, layouts, showing character interaction with the environment

She then talked about the reality of prop artists that they usually are just envimoent artists that help with prop design because companies cant afford just a prop artist

She then gave some more portfolio pointers for all game artists, showing process, cut work down, technical skills, show work pipeline 

She gave a quickfire on important things in the industry, 

  • Photoshop is standard
  • What to include in CV 
  • What youve done in each role 
  • Cover letter importance
  • Generalist vs specialist

She then went onto talk about the importance of networking and how networking is the main way to get jobs / roles

Also talked about the industry and how AI is taking over jobs and layoffs are happening but did say its natural in industries
