Lotus Blossom Technique
Lotus Blossom is a visual brainstorming technique where you start from one central idea and then systematically expand this into related themes and then further into sub-themes and this is arranged in a blossom shape. Each of the petals becomes a new centre point which helps to break down broader topics such as coffee or sports into more personal / emotional themes. Compared to other brainstorming techniques this structure is more about depth rather than speed. This helps to come up with less generic themes that can be used as a foundation for a game.

After doing some lotus blossom maps, it’s clear the areas of each topic that interested me the most such as mood and demographic in the coffee shop, or the social/ community aspects from sports. This technique also showed how small details such as furniture or routines directly connect to the feeling of comfort, calm, and adrenaline which are useful pillars for designing game interactions.
