1 on 1 Feedback
1 on 1 feedback + moving forward:
What i presented:
- I went into this meeting wanting to explain why I am moving away from texture and instead pursuing the theme of natural disasters.
- I wanted to put forward my first initial game ideas that explored different disaster scenarios and the gameplay mechanics that I had thought of.
- I presented my 2 prototypes: the book prototype and the wave prototype which represented two different game ideas
- I also wanted to show what work I had already done and how I have been documenting my process.
Key questions & feedback:
- The main feedback I received was asking my direction of this theme and what specifically I was going to focus on.
- There was a concern that I could be exploring too many scenarios without committing to one clear direction and I was aided to narrow down to one concept and develop it deeply rather than have multiple surface level concepts.
- We then went on to talk about the visual identity of my game idea, from talking about what other games in the genre currently look like and was told to further explore this in my own time. The main point though was that the art style should be able to communicate danger, urgency, and environmental storytelling.
- In terms of the documentation process they kept it nice and short and explicitly said make sure i work to connect the learning outcomes and reflect on why I’ve made decisions not just what decisions I’ve made
Key takeaways:
- I need to focus on one concept and make it clear of the mechanics, art direction, and how I will playtest the prototype. Making sure to document the ‘why’ behind the decisions I make.
