Sound Design & Music Direction

Mood

Like in Terraria, the music should change depending on if it’s daylight or night. With the daylight track, it should be calm but upbeat. Major chords and keys would mainly be used for the melody and the overall tune. A waltz could work incredibly well here.
At night, the music should sound more mystical and tense. Still use major chords but the pitch could be lower. Or there could be reverb.
A more tense, dramatic tune should play when engaged in combat with a really tough enemy, or in a chase scene (e.g. fox or animal snatcher chasing the player character).

Lost in a Daydream by Stardiva on YouTube is one of the songs that stuck out in my head when thinking about a playful tune. It’s a waltz which is gently upbeat and bouncy. One thing that I liked about it was that there is a nice gap between the pitch of the melody and the chords.
