This week, everyone brought pictures that they thought they had the most “movement” feeling and explained why they were movement. I chose a photo of a magma flow because I think this movement is layered. I chose a photograph of the flow of magma as an example of “movement” because I think this movement is layered.

On the surface of the painting, the magma has cooled and solidified, and the flow has stopped, but it retains the texture and shape it once flowed. This is a static movement – the result of the movement is fixed and becomes a visible trace.

Under these solidified layers, there is still hot, continuously surging magma. This part of movement is invisible, dynamic, and happening, but it is obscured by the surface layer. The real movement in the picture is not fully presented, but it is real.

Movement does not necessarily need to be presented through immediate changes, it can also be perceived through the accumulation of time and the traces that have been preserved.
