{"id":265,"date":"2026-01-11T04:33:28","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T04:33:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/mfm2g24\/?page_id=265"},"modified":"2026-01-11T04:40:45","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T04:40:45","slug":"week-10","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/mfm2g24\/week-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 10"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Making an effective GDD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pitch deck vs GDD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pitch deck<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Short presentation to answer high level questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entice collaborators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acquire funding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give overall vibe of the game and what will take to make it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>GDD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Detailed description of the game, allowing developers to know exactly which tasks are needed and how long it will take to implement everything<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Main goal is to make sure everyone has the same mental image of the game you\u2019re making<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many diagrams and references<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A successful GDD is one that people will read<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Elevator pitch \u2013 two sentence explanation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gameplay.<ul><li>Does the programmer know what they need to build?<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>What are the smaller components of each system?<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Do you have references from other games?<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do you know any useful plugins? And how will they need to be adjusted?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Break it down into a gameplay loop diagram<ul><li>What is the moment-to-moment gameplay and what happens?<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How does the player interact with the game?<ul><li>What happens if the player does well or poorly?<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In what way does their experience change when they do the same interaction?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Challenge activity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were given a sheet of paper containing a well-known simple game to make gameplay diagram of. Our table got the no Wi-Fi Dino game. There aren\u2019t just obstacles to jump over\u201d and also something regarding the increase of points from avoiding obstacles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This made me realise that even for such a simple game, there\u2019s many small details I missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Visuals<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Concept\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2D\/3D? stylised\/realistic? Perspective?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Characters\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fit within narrative, mechanics, etc?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Environment\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Does it fit into the level design, mechanics, etc?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Level design<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Diagrams, maps, whiteboxing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Look into <em>tutorials<\/em>, <em>narrative design<\/em>, and <em>what every part of the game communicates<\/em>, and the <em>audio<\/em>. Main <em>time winks<\/em>? What is the <em>minimum viable product<\/em>?
