Each of us had to vote 6 GDDs by Tuesday 4pm and then pick which roles we would be most comfortable taking up once assorted into a group. I put character artist and Narrative designer at the top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday the teams were to be revealed, before so we were given a simple explanation for how the groups were structured with the roles. Once revealed I found out that my game was picked which made me happy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was assigned to Backchat as character artist! Which im glad about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"752\" height=\"423\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/mfm2g24\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2026\/03\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/mfm2g24\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2026\/03\/image.png 752w, https:\/\/sites.wsagames.com\/mfm2g24\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2026\/03\/image-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 752px) 100vw, 752px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Messy draft of discussion we had<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we got together as a team we began looking at the GDD and began thinking about the game direction I guess. We immediately started thinking about the mechanics and how the game would play out. We discussed how the player would befriend the characters. In the GDD it was outlined that there is a friendship meter that increases or decreases depending on the answers, so we began thinking about the character\u2019s interests and personalities and how they would align into friendship. Irl friendships are made by bonding over shared interests so we though that maybe the characters could each have something they match one and something they do not match on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also though about the relationships that the NPCs themselves might already have with each other prior to the MC moving into the school. For example, if two character disliked each other, they would notice that you talked to the other one and in turn have slight distain towards you or might even feel betrayed, and in another instance if a character finds another one to be \u201cweird\u201d they\u2019d mention that if you brought up their name or might feel weirded out by you by proxy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These were all pretty good ideas, but we had to consider that this might create many achievable endings, which we might not have the time to do for a vertical slice. Following this we began to think about how many ending we wanted there to be by the end of the game and decided to keep it really small, like an ending where you successfully made a friend, made friends with them all, or no friends made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also understood that we didn\u2019t really know much about ASD or how 11 year olds talk amongs each other, so we agreed that we would have to do some basic level of research before carrying on further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Takeaways for next week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We decided to do some research for the sake of the narrative and the mechanics, and Cindy was going to create Character outlines that I could then begin sketching character designs from.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday we started semester 2 and were introduced to the new module \u201cGame Development\u201d, where we would be separated into 6 groups to develop 6 GDDs from Semester 1.
