Weeks 9-10 – Public Playtest<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main focus for myself and my team during weeks 9-10 was purely getting ready for the final playtest that would be held in WSA Caf\u00e9. After our second playtest the week prior we took our time combing over the feedback we accumulated to make our game in the best condition it can be by the playtest on Week 10. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Development Log 07 – Miscellaneous Developments<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the morning of the public playtest on 01.05.2026 we faced a runtime bug in which the mouse cursor was once again offset, almost identical to the problem I faced in Development Log 06<\/a>. Despite my best efforts, I was not able fix it in time before the playtest, so we had to play the game with the bug present and simply explain it to the players each time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our results from the playtest can be found on our shared Soul Keeper website here<\/a>. I did a mixture of supervising players, playing other students’ games and also taking photos of students for the university. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Week 11 – Postmortem<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of semester 2, I have become significantly more comfortable working as a team player, as a programmer, and as a communicator. I am very proud of the outcome we have all collectively achieved and have forged strong bonds with my teammates over the weeks of development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I do feel that I could have exerted myself some more though when appropriate. My main critique of how I worked in this module is that although I was very consistent with communicating with my teammates and presenting my ideas in all aspects of development, when it came to the work I actually put forward myself it was quite isolated from the rest of the group. In future projects I wish to take on responsibilities more keenly and push myself to be involved in more aspects of game development, not just to improve my skills, but to balance the weight of development more evenly on everyone’s shoulders and feel a greater sense of personal responsibility for our collective work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equally though, I feel this module has been a very important learning process for me in both my technical skills and as a communicator. I d wish in the future that perhaps I can find a more artistic role, as it has now been two years and I haven’t taken on that role fully in any project thus far. I feel that right now I’m in a situation where I’m quite a “jack-of-all-trades” but master of none, and I want to train myself to become more specialised; or better yet, to become simultaneously great at both angles of game development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that in perspective, though, I do think that Soul Keeper was largely a success, and I am very proud of myself and especially my teammates for all we have contributed together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
