Insuring what you have made is of a desired level of quality, at every stage of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Responsibilities of a QA Analyst:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Build verification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Document processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finding and reporting bugs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Usability testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing, maintaining and running test cases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop testing tools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verifying bug fixes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is quality assurance in the context of making games?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Functional testing &#8211; \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Generalised QA testing <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Playthrough testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Smoke testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Localisation testing &#8211; \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fluent in multiple languages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Checks the game makes sure linguistically and culturally makes sense<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Checks dialogue, text, numbers and dates are correctly localised.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compliance testing &#8211; \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Checks the game meets regulatory standards set by first party platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dev QA &#8211; \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Supports QA teams with testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supports design teams with troubleshooting <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can act as a connection between QA and other development teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can establish process and guidelines for wider testing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Specialist field testing &#8211; \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Engine\/performance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Design systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Network<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Game specific elements <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Animation <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Audio and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SDET &#8211; Software development engineer in test &#8211; \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Writes, develops and manages automated testing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Design changes vs Bugs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td>Design issues\/ usability<\/td><td>Bugs<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Is the game playable to someone who has never played the game before?<br><br>Examples of issues may include:<br>\u2727 Unclear objectives<br>\u2727 Narrative issues<br>\u2727 Confusing visuals<br>\u2727 Inconsistencies<\/td><td>A defect in the software. Code does not function as it should.<br><br>Examples of issues may include:<br>\u2727 Crashes<br>\u2727 Performance issues<br>\u2727 Cosmetic issues<br>\u2727 Functional game flow issues<br>\u2727 Certification \/ Compliance \/ Legal issues<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A QA team can help identify both things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What does testing for user feedback look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Testing for design changes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Watch someone play the game<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give as little pre-amble information as possible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take detailed notes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What does testing for bugs look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Testing for bugs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Try everything possible to &#8216;break&#8217; the game<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t play the game normally<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try to account for every scenario the game will be played in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are the limitations of testing your own work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You know what you&#8217;ve made<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Giving yourself honest feedback is hard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scale of resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training yourself to think differently:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Designer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Player<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Player who has never played games<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Advice for testing your own work:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set your quality gate and stick to it &#8211; the standard you want to achieve with this product.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Break it down into sections &#8211; focus on one feature at a time, giving you a better chance of finding all the bugs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get feedback on your product<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every game ships with bugs &#8211; disaster planning ahead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Advice for working with a QA team:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Document your work clearly &#8211; the more information the better<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Test your work before you submit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Georgia&#8217;s talk was very useful and relevant to what both the team and I have been working on recently &#8211; The playtest and my camp survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:clamp(39.963px, 2.498rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 2.19), 75px);\">\u22c5\u2500\u22b1\u2727\u2727\u2727\u22b0\u2500\u22c5<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:clamp(21.536px, 1.346rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.841), 35px);\"><strong>Thursday 20th March<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Thursday we gave our group presentations on what we have achieved so far. We ended up behind asked two questions by the class:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Would you consider working on this game concept further, outside of the assignment context?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is the artwork featured going to be the finalised version\/style?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our responses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;Yes, we believe this game concept has a lot more to offer then we have planned to produce for it.
