This second mouth is ravenous, and uses long strands of its hair-like tentacles to gorge itself on any food it can find.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One story of this spirit is about a man who met a woman who didn\u2019t eat anything, he immediately married her, he was happy thinking he saved money but he realised his food supply decreasing. Since his wife never ate, he suspected her. Pretending to leave for work, he waited to spy and in doing so, he watched as his wife revealed a second mouth on the back of her head with teeth. It began eating the rice balls. His wife already knowing his plan trapped him and carried him to the mountains. He managed to escape and hide within heavily scented lily marsh.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/yokai.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/futakuchionna-335x335.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the folk tales of Japan\u2019s eastern regions, futakuchi onna are most often thought to be shape-changed yama uba posing as young women.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In each story, this y\u014dkai is used as a punishment upon a greedy man or woman for wickedness and extreme parsimony.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Translation:\u00a0two-mouthed woman<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Habitat:\u00a0usually occurs in married women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diet:\u00a0as a normal person, only twice as much<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-5fb07882 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.pinimg.com\/236x\/b2\/f6\/54\/b2f65419db18b81ef6fa2de354e9aed4.jpg\" alt=\"This may contain: a painting of a woman with her mouth covered by a white cloth covering her face\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><mark style=\"background-color:#c9aa67\" class=\"has-inline-color has-background-color\">Kuchisake Onna<\/mark>\u00a0\u2013 The slit mouth women is a urban legend of a spirit with a surgical mask who asks passer-by\u2019s \u201cAm I pretty?\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If answered \u2018no\u2019 she attacks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If answered \u2018yes\u2019 she takes off her mask, revealing a mouth slit from ear to ear and attacks you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apparently the only way to survive is if you answer with \u201cso-so\u201d which confuses the spirit enough to let you run away.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.prod.website-files.com\/60e34bd2f998a0320400382a\/62775d590c1952a71ff3dcdc_Kuchisake-onna_conversation_diagram.jpg\" alt=\"Flowchart of conversation with kuchisake-onna where you die at every ending.\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is said the slit mouth women originated in the Edo period of Japan, where she lived with a samurai man in a small village. She was someone with beauty, often asking in the day if she\u2019s pretty. Then she had a affair, which her husband heard about, furious at her infidelity, he mutilated her face taking away the beauty she so coveted. They act as the messengers of the gods. They protect humans, provide good luck, ward evil spirits away and protect places. These shrines serving the deity Inari often have statues of these foxes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wild foxes: These foxes often trick of possess humans.
