System-Aware Design, Scalable Production, Intentional Constraints
Overview — Design Within Real Production Conditions
THRESHOLD: SIGNAL AT THE EDGE is conceived not only as a conceptual system, but as a production-aware project designed to function within realistic technical, pipeline, and resource constraints.
All design decisions—from interface behaviour to mission structure are informed by considerations of scalability, modularity, and implementation feasibility within a contemporary game development environment.
The project prioritises clarity of systems over technical spectacle, ensuring that conceptual intent remains legible even under constrained production conditions.
1.Primary Engine Environment
“THRESHOLD: SIGNAL AT THE EDGE、 is developed with Unreal Engine 5 as the main real-time engine. All technical decisions, system design and visual strategies are consistent with UE5’s rendering architecture, script framework, and world construction tool chain.
The project is structured to run completely within the standard UE5 production process, without relying on any proprietary plug-ins or experimental engine changes, so as to ensure the stability, maintainability and production feasibility of the implementation path.
2.Gameplay & Mission Logic Implementation
Mission structure, progression logic, and gameplay variation are implemented through Blueprint-driven, data-oriented systems.
Mission behaviour is controlled by:Location access flagsSignal state variables Environmental condition parameters Gameplay mode weighting per missionThis structure allows primary and secondary missions to share a unified technical foundation while supporting narrative and experiential variation.
3.Modular Environment & Level Construction
All environments are thought of as modular infrastructure systems rather than customised one-off levels. Key principles: Reusable architecture Modular modules Shared asset libraries across missions Environmental variation achieved by changes in signal state, lighting instability, collapsing layers, and spatial recontextualisation This approach allows for efficient iteration, continuity of story, reduced duplication of assets, and consistent environment logic across world building.
