What is technical art?

After the group assignments were announced in the first week, I found out I was assigned to the second position I chose: Technical Artist. Since I have some basic knowledge of game engines and modeling, I was really keen to try this role. However, I wasn’t clear on the specifics of the job, so I decided to do some research to figure it out.

I wanted to know what the specific job duties entailed, so I found an articles.

The article is: What does a technical artist do? (https://www.careerexplorer.com/careers/technical-artist/ No date)

This gave me some direction.

Technical artist is a role that combines art and technology. Because they need to handle both aspects simultaneously, their skills are diverse. However, essentially, they are responsible for ensuring that art assets function smoothly within the game.

In some games, technical artists are responsible for skill effects, but since our project is a 2D game and there are no skill-related settings in the game content, in our project, in addition to adding art assets to the game engine to ensure the game runs properly, I will also be responsible for the game’s UI. Currently, this is my role as a technical artist in the project.
