This week, we were introduced to the vertical slice we’re going to create, which gave me a preliminary understanding of it. It’s similar to a small game demo, or a game prototype. It’s not a complete game, but rather a part of a game, containing the core elements within the vertical slice to facilitate testing whether the game achieves the parts the designers intended.
This also means that different game focuses will result in different forms of vertical slices. For example, if the game’s focus is on art style, then the vertical slice will need to showcase more of that art style rather than specific game events.
Grouping
We learned of our grouping results on Thursday after we voted on everyone’s GDD and the positions they wanted to take.

After the groups were formed, we got to know our group members, discussed our assigned projects, and confirmed what each of us would do.
To be honest, I’m a little scared about the job I’m about to take on. My first choice was actually narrative design because I know how to approach storytelling and related aspects. But for a TA, I don’t really know what I’d be doing, and I have absolutely no experience with the technical aspects. I’ll spend my weekends researching what skills I need to learn and what my job will entail.
