Sprint 1 Reflection

During this first sprint, I’m really glad I spent the time creating prefabs and workflows that will make further development a lot more efficient. I feel like I’ve allocated this early part of development well, if I had gone straight into creating levels it would have taken me much longer in the long term. Furthermore, the research and planning done during this sprint may have felt like not much productive happened, but it was definitely worthwhile.

However, one issue with my work is that I feel as though I’ve committed to these level designs that I had planned too much. Although I’ve tested them with the grey boxes and they do work, I could have designed better more interesting levels but I felt pressured by the deadline to commit and follow the gantt chart to continue to sprint 2.

Summary

What went well:

  1. Created early prefabs and systems that will make later development more efficient
    • Controller support
    • Player input rebind functionality
    • UI Controller compatability
    • Tile sets
    • Obstacles prefabs
  2. Tested and grey boxed levels that work
    • Levels that teach the player how to use certain mechanics

Critical analysis

  1. Spent slightly longer than desired on this sprint
  2. Levels could have been iterated more
    • Would have led to more interesting level design
