PERSONAL REFLECTION

Major Focus

My major focus this year is 3D modeling and game design. During the summer, I had the opportunity to join Tencent Games in Shanghai as a Game System Design intern. It was a valuable experience that helped me understand how creative ideas are organized and turned into playable systems within a professional studio. The process also made me realize how much I still have to learn about balancing creativity with structure in real development.

Over the past year, I have been gradually building my skills in 3D modeling. In our Year 1 game project, I was mainly responsible for modeling environments and props. That experience helped me improve my technical workflow and my understanding of space and visual composition. In Semester 2, I am able to contribute to my team by taking charge of modeling tasks and helping with the construction of the overall game system.

Minor Focus

My minor focus is engine implementation and programming, including engine operation, code logic, and scripting. Last year, I was involved in much of our game’s technical development—using Unity and writing C# scripts. This year, I aim to keep learning in this area so that I can better connect design ideas with practical implementation in future projects.

Skill Development & Documentation

To improve my skills in 3D modeling, I often study through online tutorials and professional courses, learning new techniques and workflows step by step. For coding, I usually combine online learning with what I learn in Ross’s technical studio sessions. Whenever I feel confused or face technical problems, I ask for help from my tutors or classmates and actively seek feedback.

At the start of every new project, I create a moodboard and conduct both primary andsecondary research to gather visual and conceptual references. For game design, I read books about game planning and design theory, and I also communicate with professionals in the field to learn from their experience.

After completing each project, I carefully organize all related assets and save them digitally as part of my portfolio archive. During the development process, I also take photos and progress records, so that I can include them in my portfolio or reflective documentation when needed.
