Above are links to the notes for my presentation, which explores potential topics, as well as to the presentation itself.

This presentation was about Sea Monsters again. The idea behind the presentation is to give my peers ideas for game concepts/mechanics that could inspire the next stage of the project: game concept creation.

Some unique ideas that really resonated with me are the ones about relating people to the sea monsters we can find. Potentially having some story-based game that attributes ‘sea monster’ traits to people.

I can also spin the basic narrative, where people are portrayed as the ‘monsters’ destroying the environment that the sea monsters live in, forcing them to leave their habitats and interact with humanity.

  • The player is tasked with chasing sea monsters away from coastal cities. As the player completes these challenges, evidence of environmental damage and human desire reveals what has brought these creatures to the surface.

Similarly, people really resonated with the map aspect of sea monsters, so some sort of cartography game based around creating the maps themselves could also be interesting to explore.

  • The player sets off on an adventure to learn about the surrounding area but finds a passion for researching the seas, discovering sea monsters and ancient artefacts along the way.
  • Gane can raise awareness for particular sea animal habitats which may go unnoticed in our day-to-day lives.
