I started to ponder on the feelings that I want players to experience when they play my game. What I want to say was not “excitement” or “challenge”, but an emotion that is plain yet stable. While most people use “ordinary” to reflect something worthless, I consider it to be the opposite. I think ordinary speaks of stability, existence, and smooth continuity.
Like the night-blooming flower, its bloom is short-lived, but because it is short-lived, it is precious. I have decided to make my game an experience. An experience where you can feel the little moments that get ignored all the time. Like, the reflection on the wall when the sunlight comes in, the wobbling reflection on water, or the echo of footsteps at a corner of the street.
Upon reflection, I came to realize that the outcome of a game doesn’t matter, but the process. The player experiences that the ordinary is complete through exploration and observation. This completeness is exactly the experience I want to express.
