As this semester is coming to a conclusion, I want to reflect on my research, concepts, and overcoming challenges. Through critical analysis and iteration, I have developed a clearer understanding of the direction of the current game I am working on while also pointing out areas for improvement with my partner.
This module has allowed me to continue to develop my skills as a concept artist, but next semester opens gates for opportunities in areas within the 2D art space that I am not yet familiar with. This includes asset development, character animation, and the possibility of visual effects. It is imperative that I engage in areas I am not accustomed to become a well rounded game artist.
Collaborating with someone I can trust as a programmer and a person has also significantly added to the progression of this project. It has allowed me to receive constant feedback, links to tutorials, and allowed reflection on both of our complimentary strengths. Small challenges appeared in the form of scope and ethical considerations surrounding a culture we are not familiar with. However, through carefully cutting back aspects, merging levels, and setting up an interview with a close friend, we managed to solve these issues.
One challenge that I personally surpassed this semester was presenting my ideas in front of a crowd. Building up the confidence to articulate my ideas to my peers has helped me realise that presentation- although can be anxiety inducing -is also an opportunity to give and receive feedback with peers, which is a valuable asset within this project and in the professional games design space.
Moving ahead for next semester, I plan on sticking to a strict timetable in order to get work done. I will also be taking on areas in my profession that I have not yet explored, but now given the chance, I should give it my all and produce high quality work.
(Time line for next semester)
