Week 1

Year 2 feedback:

# What you did well

You demonstrated a very clear and professional visual design style, with strong initial mood boards and thoughtful reflections on your work. The final outcome is visually impressive and suggests a confident grasp of aesthetic direction. Your ability to present a polished final design shows maturity in your creative approach and a very good understanding of how to visually communicate game environments.

# Areas to improve

– It’s unclear how feedback (from peers, players, etc.) was applied—what changed, and why?

– The portfolio structure made it hard to track your design process from start to finish

– More sketches and experiments would help show how visual research was applied

– You could have done more research into tools and pipelines, only mention of it on blog says that there wasn’t enough time to experiment in procreate

# How to improve

Next time, try to make your full process more visible by documenting key decisions and stages—from early sketches to iterations based on feedback (not just the moodboard, final product, and minor tweaks). Clearly show how your initial research and visual references influenced your final outcomes. This might include side-by-side comparisons, notes on feedback implementation, or examples of how your work fits within the larger game identity (e.g. character art, UI). Developing this documentation will help strengthen the connection between process and product, making your decisions more understandable and your portfolio more robust.
