The inspired research for game idea 1:
I decided that I wanted to create my own heroic legend, similar to the previous research I’d done. I considered the common distinctions they shared, and most of them presented the main character as if fate was involved in their destiny to become a great figure. I soon realised that the term ‘fate’ would be an interesting concept for a game idea to be about, so I began more in-depth research to determine where I could go next.
I decided my next step is to use the lotus flower technique from week 1 for fate to think of more possibilities for the story.

I decided to research these words further:
- Destiny
- Why: I decided to pick destiny because I like the idea of being able to change your destiny depending on your determination. So it’s something you can control, as your actions could lead to ‘destined for greatness’ and not ultimately having a pre-determined fate.
- Fate
- Why: I decided to pick fate because it was a part of the original storyline where you couldn’t escape a certain folktale fate, but also because I like the fact that there’s a predetermined fate and it’s seen as impossible to change.
- Canon events
- Why: Well, I was inspired by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and how each Spider-Man had to go through a tragic canon event to protect their universe, or it would break the balance.
Possibilities of a story :
- Fairy Tale – Damsel in distress situation: I also thought about the possibility of where the main protagonist would be a ‘damsel in distress’ waiting for her ‘knight and shining armour’. A stereotypical situation of a princess wanting to be saved, like in Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty. However, I feel as if this situation has been overused, especially in Disney films like Frozen (Elsa), Moana and Brave (Merida).
- Predetermined fate of a villain/Hero: You learn about a story tale growing up that’s been passed down through many generations. You being a non-believer, think it’s a ridicules tale, but you soon come to realise the tale is your life, where you’re forced to acknowledge the tale. Do you try to obey fate or change it?
In conclusion, I decided to go with option 2, the predetermined fate of a hero.
