Week 1

“Which field of game design and art are you good at? What do you want to focus on learning and expand your learning in the future?”

I enjoy and focus on improving my 2D character art. In terms of expansion, I want to learn the basic animation and Live 2D techniques.

“Based on the feedback from last academic year’s homework, what do you need to improve?”

My works lack textual explanations and reflections on the creative process. I need to record my workflow in more detail, such as every step from conception, sketching to the final product, and explain my thoughts and methods. At the same time, I am insufficient in terms of research and reference. For instance, when using the works of Cenm0, the illustrator of Arknights, as inspiration, I should explain which features of his works I like and how these elements have influenced my creation. Besides, I also need to reflect on the problems encountered in my creation and how the feedback from my classmates or teachers can help me improve. Overall, the teacher hopes that I can demonstrate a clear process of research, analysis and reflection in my works, rather than merely presenting the results of images.

Also,in another piece of feedback,I learned that I can further seek or analyze other sources of inspiration – not limited to games, but also refer to different media such as movies or illustrations. At the same time, the teacher mentioned that my use of colors in daily sketches was very interesting and suggested that I reflect this color expression more in my project works. In the second project, it was not easy to see from the sketchbook and pictures how these ideas developed, nor was it clear exactly what the design elements represented. I need to explain why such a design choice was made. Overall, the teacher hopes that I can more fully demonstrate the sources of creative inspiration, the design thinking process, and the meaning behind each visual element.
