To help me better understand my ideas for this phase, I wanted to create two central moodboards that showcase the types of concepts I’d like to explore and the kind of “vibe” they’ll convey.
BJDs
For my BJD moodboard, I have zoomed in on certain aspects that I’d like to focus on, such as the “creepiness” of BJDs, and how the joints move in articulated ways like a human does – the similarities between humans as a species and BJDs as a jointed and alive “sub-species” of human, expanding from the idea of an alive non-person in my idea explosion. I wanted to delve further into that realm of thinking, as it could lend itself to interesting game ideas.
The 3 keywords I wanted to show in this moodboard are:
- Alive (You can feel the soul of the doll in these pictures)
- Hinged (The joints are visible for most of these dolls)
- Stylised (Each doll has a unique look to it, which makes the viewer curious to discover more)

Hair Braiding
With Hair Braiding, I wanted to show a range of different styles from modern, traditional and just full-on whimsical. For a realistic game about braiding, I’d focus on the traditional styles like Cornrows, but for maybe a futuristic game idea, it could focus on more busy-looking styles. I love the idea of looking into hair as an art form that bonds communities together, so I think many of my game ideas will have this theme embedded in them throughout.

- Stylised
- Whimiscal
- Intricate
