My Presentation
(Phase 3 Development)

We started Monday off with presentations of a deep dive into our chosen topic. My presentation was on my chosen topic: Hair Braiding combined with BJDs (Ball-Jointed Dolls). I started with a quote and talked about how it links to braiding hair, as well as the general process and trust around braiding hair.

I love the topic of hair as a way to hold trauma, so I talked a bit about this more personally. I’d like to explore the idea of “hair holding of memories and regrets” too.

Lastly, I talked about African Art and its connection to dolls, as well as Modern Animism with BJDs, exploring the way hair and BJDs are both things that are considered dead/unliving, but they’re actually alive. At the very end, I gave my classmates some ideas to think about if they’re interested in working on a game idea with me.
You can view the full presentation here, with all the transitions, so you can see how I presented it to the class.
nodenogg.in Feedback for my Presentation

I received a lot of useful and interesting feedback on my presentation. I think a few people were quite interested in the ways these two topics intersect. I will pick out 5 sentences that could work well as game ideas from my classmates:
- “could be combined with BJDS – stories of dolls being loved and coming to life?”
- “A game about a small girl and her BJD about trust and communication with other people”
- “Maybe a therapeutic hair game, where you need to gently un-braid or braid hair and release the trauma.”
- “Murder mystery game following a hairstylist who gets too much gossip on something”
- “Cut hair coming to life by memories attached to it”
Many of these are similar to ideas I’ve already had, like 1, 2, and 5. It makes me happy that my classmates had some of the same ideas as me.
nodenogg.in Class Discussion
Lastly, we had a class discussion on what made us excited (purple), worried (red) or what we are looking forward to (green) in future classes. I am excited to work on a project with like-minded people, and hopefully get out of my comfort zone. I would love to work on my game, but I know not a lot of people are familiar with the topics, so I am keeping an open mind with other classmates’ topics I like.
