Final Asset Implementation

As the functionality of the game is complete (The game is completable from start to finish). I just need to add in the 2D assets that Paula has sent me to finish the game:

Star Animations

To make the star navigation scene livelier, I asked Paula to make some twinkle animations for some of the stars in the scene. It also helps to differentiate the stars the player should look out for vs the background stars:

After this discussion about what I thought the stars should look like, Paula sent me these PNGs:

Which I turned into spritesheets:

And animated using Unity’s Animation window:

Star animation script

To give the scene some more variety, I also created a script that would randomise each individual star’s size and animation speed:

This script had variables that I could change in the inspector:

Grappling Hook Animations

At this point in development, we had yet to create an animation for Kauri throwing the grapple. But before creating the final animation, Paula sent me some drafts:

To give Paula some more guidance, I looked into Silksong’s Grapple animation and screenshotted it frame by frame.

This one was much better in my opinion (As we don’t want the animation to delay the player’s input). But there was something I did notice:

Paula understood my notes and instructions perfectly, making the following animations:

Horizontal throw animation
Upwards throw animation

I then created a spritesheet with the individual frames Paula sent me:

Which I, then, made animation clips for:

All I had to do now was hook it up to the player’s animation controller:

Create parameters to play these animations:

And set these parameters’ values in the player controller script:

Crumbling + Falling Platform Tiles

To make the crumbling and falling platforms more obvious, I asked Paula to make another simpler tileset for them:

Which I turned into a tilemap and a tile palette:

After I had each tile palette, I went through each level swapping out the tiles:

Island Asset Colours

To give each island more of a distinct feel from the others, we decided to give each island’s assets (Tiles and decorative assets) their own tinge:
