Γνῶθι σεαυτόν (Know thyself)
-Thales of Miletus (626/623 BC)
Finishing characters.
With the male characters completed previously, the logical next step was to finish the females. Just like before for the male characters, I put barely any effort or thought.
The process felt fundamentally different this time, and not in a good way.
I don’t know women that well.
It’s impossible to understand them.
They are enigmas.
While drawing the male characters felt like constructing a familiar, logical shell, approaching the female characters felt like trying to sculpt smoke. Every line I placed a line, it felt like a lie, a guess at a shape I’ve never truly seen.
Despite this, deadlines do not care for philosophical crises. Here is what I got:
Female 1

Female 2

Female 3

Female 4

Female 5

The irony of the Delphic maxim is not lost on me this week. How can I “know thyself” when my own hand creates strangers I don’t recognize? There is a fundamental disconnect between the reference, the intention, and the final line art that I could not resolve.
Well. Now we wait and see people’s reactions. I suspect the silence will be louder than any critique.
