Map Scene Design

This top-down night-time map functions as a playable environment rather than a standalone illustration.
The winding stone pathway structures player movement and visual flow, while interactive elements such as Bouncing Mushrooms, Buried Dream Caskets, and Gazer Sheep are subtly embedded into the landscape.

Together, environmental lighting and reactive creatures encourage exploration through observation, pacing, and quiet interaction within a dreamlike space.

Light as Environmental Guidance

Lighting is used as a soft guiding system rather than a mechanical indicator.
Hanging lanterns and low pathway lamps emit warm yellow light, creating a strong contrast against the dark blue environment and subtly marking safe, readable areas for the player.

Light pools also interact with surrounding terrain, shaping visibility and rhythm without breaking immersion.

Characters & Ambient Life

Two Gazer Sheep appear along the pathway as ambient life forms.
Rather than acting as challenges, they respond to prolonged eye contact, gradually attracting more sheep and forming clusters that subtly obstruct movement.

Their presence reinforces the scene’s calm tone while introducing a quiet layer of environmental feedback, linking observation, space, and player behaviour.

Terrain & Environmental Layers

The environment is divided into readable terrain layers:
dark grassland tiles, softly lit flowers, and flowing water forms on the left side of the scene.
Subtle edge lighting helps separate walkable space from background elements, ensuring clarity in a top-down perspective.

Process & Iteration

This map was developed through an iterative painting process, moving from layout planning to lighting balance and environmental detailing.
Screenshots of the process demonstrate how visual clarity and atmosphere were refined simultaneously.
