In Phase 1, I centred my discussion around a few keywords. This phase is for me to figure out the parts that I am really interested in and is good for continued depth.
Chase
Regarding the word chase, after the previous explanation, I will be more concerned about the state when I am being chased, that feeling of not being able to stop and constantly being pushed.
Therefore at this stage, I am more concerned with the psychological pressure that chase brings, rather than the behaviour itself. I didn’t intentionally try to develop content related to combat or confrontation, because I don’t really want to make action games about combat afterwards. I’m more concerned with the decisions people make at this point in time.
Surrealism
When exploring the word, it has a rich history and related artwork. Just researching the word itself takes a lot of time to decipher the symbolism or logic behind it, but I’m more drawn to its spatiality.
I prefer to focus on spatial things, such as the mismatch of rooms, the irrational placement, the uneasiness these environments bring to people. I’m more attracted to the reconfiguration of real objects and the spatial layout.
Puzzle
My study of the word puzzle doesn’t stop at the surface meaning of the word, such as complex logic or mathematical problems, but I am more interested in the psychological aspects of the human being. I’m more interested in how people react to it on a psychological level. I don’t really like puzzles that require a long time to stop and think, or complex processes. I prefer step-by-step puzzles.
Intuition
Intuition is the keyword that influenced me the most. For me, intuition is not something that can be defined, it is more like a reaction, which is usually reflected in the fact that the body has already made a judgement before it has time to think clearly.
I’m more interested in this state of doing before thinking, rather than theoretical explanations. The uncertainty of wanting to spend more time understanding the word through observation and experience, coupled with the fact that the word itself is very vague and open-ended, makes it more interesting to me.
Short Summary
Of all these keywords, Intuition is the one I most want to continue to keep exploring.
Intuition is a very popular word that appears in all corners of life, but few people bother to really understand it. This is because I find it very vague and hard to be articulated. Compared to other keywords, intuition doesn’t represent a specific item or form, it’s more like a state of being.
It’s this state of not being able to be clarified that makes me think that there can be a lot of room for development afterwards. Compared to theories or symbols that need to be explained, intuition is closer to personal experience, and it is the word that I am most willing to spend more time studying.
