Theme Cover Design

After comparing my four previous themes and doing research on them, I chose INTUITION as my final theme. The theme of intuition can represent a much wider range of things than the other themes that more people choose, and many things, big and small, are involved in this area, from everyday life to gaming to philosophy. Think This Intuition After all, everyone has intuition, but it’s hard for anyone to really explain this everyday phenomenon perfectly.

Production process

In one of our Phase 2 workshop, we were asked to intuitively create a sticker in the form of a cover around a current theme. There were no rules or steps to this task, so for me it was more of an exercise in exploring the spiritual world. It was also the first time in Phase 2 that I really put aside my analyses for a while and explored the subject matter in a more direct way.

The process of making this collage went very quickly. I didn’t have an idea of what the overall image would look like in advance, but rather started with a pile of books and picked them out one by one. The selection of the images was almost a matter of feeling; some images would feel right as soon as I saw them, others would be quickly ruled out even if they looked good. Present

There is a recurring element of ‘exit’ in the stickers. This was something I deliberately planned for during production, and it’s probably something I’d like to see in subsequent games. There are signs that clearly say EXIT, as well as gates, buildings, fences, and street signs. At the time, these elements were only familiar and pleasing to my eyes, so I left them in, and it was not until the whole painting was completed that I realised they had become the core of the picture.

In terms of composition, this collage is not uniform. It is a mixture of buildings, roads, natural landscapes and people, with inconsistent scales and spatial relationships, but there is a directionality between them all. At the centre of the image is a geometrically strong building that looks like a temporary stopover, while paths and exits leading elsewhere continue to stretch out around it. This structure was not designed in advance, but gradually formed in a continuous collage.

I didn’t immediately try to explain the meaning of the collage when I finished it. It was more like a stream of consciousness. It was only when I looked at the work again in the subsequent stages that I slowly realised that there was a clear connection between the “exit” imagery that I had chosen repeatedly in this stage and the space, direction and advancement that I continued to focus on later in the project.

This pasting exercise made me realise that intuition is not just a vague state of being, but that it can also be documented through concrete production. By making something first and then going back to understand it, I instead saw more clearly what I really cared about. This attempt to start from intuition also provides a good starting point for subsequent more systematic creation.
