Why ROOM-9

After exploring three different game ideas at the same time in phase 3, a final game theme was identified along with a clearer understanding of how intuition is represented in games. By comparing these ideas together, I think I was more interested in the space and environment and the pressure of intuition than the speed of reaction and judgement of the system, which are directly related to intuition. And I think that of these three directions, ROOM-9 is also the one that best combines all of these factors.

The most appealing point of this game is the unknown, and I think one of the most important points of a good game is the randomness that doesn’t allow the player to see through the ending of this game too early. There are 8 completely unknown rooms in the game that the player has to explore one after the other until they find all the right doors. The unknown 8 rooms just gives this game production a lot of room to grow and there are many details that can continue to be developed. It’s also a great continuation of my research interest in space, choice and uncertainty.

Speaking specifically about the extensibility of this game, here’s a mind map I’ve made to represent pre-existing ideas for the development of this game. Some of the game mechanics and gameplay are listed separately, which will help me to formally develop the content subsequently.
