I spent the first full week of development focused on creating an early prototype to test the mechanics of the proposed peacock minigame: this game would involve the player clicking and dragging the mouse over an image of the peacock to restore its colour.
In my very first prototype for this, I created a simple setup in which a mouse input would fire a laser (raycast) at an object with a blank texture applied to it. This texture would then recieve the raycast and output the co-ordinates of the texture that the raycast makes contact with.
Albeit very simple, this would lay the groundwork for my development of the minigame in later weeks, helping me to create the painting mechanic in which the raycast interacts with the textures by erasing (or technically painting over) the pixels of one in front of the other.
The major roadblock that prevented me from creating that interaction at this time was my lack of knowledge around shaders and material shadergraphs. You can see the research I did to overcome this obstacle here.
