Monday
On Monday, I presented an updated version of my Pusher prototype to both Adam and Jordan as a proof of concept to show that I can start testing and iterating on the idea.
They really enjoyed the movement and said it felt great, and it became clear that the Pusher prototype is the one I want to work on the most, as balancing slow rhythmic movement with high-speed dashes that leave the player exposed is an interesting gameplay concept at its core, however it will need a lot of iterations on mechanics. Adam and Jordan advised that the best way to iterate on this would be more work on the prototype, so this would require a lot of work going forward.
Adam also advised that the main focus of the game should be on the core experience delivered to the player purely via the audio, visuals and the feeling of the mechanics. While I initially felt as if the game should still have additional foci like a basic narrative as this may open opportunities for people to join my team, I do agree with the idea as using gameplay to mirror the feeling of being in a rave and create a satisfying and euphoric but hypnotic experience for the player is my main goal.
I was also unsure over having to work on the project solo, but I was reassured that the project seems to be in-scope, and creating an addictive experience that someone can play for 30 minutes would be more than enough.
