Lesson 2 : ♡

  • Looked at themes we researched about and presented / talked about it within class

I picked : Folklore / myths , Magic , Renaissance era and Sculpture

  • For folklore, I mentioned the Slavic folklore ‘Baba Yaga’ where she was portrayed in two different ways. One being a witch who lures children with sweets and the other being someone who was benevolent and knowledge that helped hero’s.  –  I was told that while google may not be the most reliable research, I could delve deeper into the illustrations of the Baba Yaga and continue from the art style and so on.
  • For magic, I mentioned I was interested because of Harry potter films; specifically the spells / incantations. When I was asked why I liked the incantations of the spells, It was because within the films you need certain requirements or meet certain conditions to cast that spell. One example, I used was Expecto patronus ( a spell that is shown in the 3rd film : Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. A defensive spell that shows different forms of animals. The condition of the spell is that you have to summon your happiest memory.) Some characters in the film become unable to perform after losing the beloved.
  • For Sculpture, I didn’t look to in-depth with it but I mentioned the theme because I liked a certain sculpture called ‘The Veiled Virgin’ which is just a sculpture that has a veil on their face. – The advice given was that I could look at clay structures in the art department / make a clay sculpture myself.
  • I also picked the renaissance era which wasn’t talked about but the reason why I choose the era was because I liked the fashion ball gowns, literature especially the poems and plays. I was interested in ball gowns because of how gowns were designed to signify hierarchy / status. I like the literature because of the love poems and how they were written to have such deep meaning. While I don’t understand some words written in those letters, I was still moved by how they wrote with convictions / determination to profess their love. It’s something you don’t really see in the modern day…. . For plays, I was interested in mainly Shakespeare play (Romeo and Juliet) how the ending was them dying or being unable to live without each other, again with the topic of love and yearning for one another.

After this we had an task about systems. System works like a breakdown of a certain topic or boing in depth & picking apart themes :

For example Moustaches – grooming , fashion , shaving, waxing , products, culture, puberty, symbolisms

For this system activity, I picked the topic magic. Heavily inspired by Harry Potter, I noted down a lot of things I saw in the film along with what I first thought of when I think of ‘magic’.

Next activity was theme dive where we were given different words to connect with one of the themes. I decided to go with ‘magic’ again. It was a fun task to see how one word could potentially connect to another and so on, the only issue I had was I should’ve made it more clearer with how it connected hence why it looks so messy.

Black out poetry ‘also known as erasure poetry, redacted poetry, and a form of found poetry’. blackout poetry can be short or long, abstract or concrete, linear or lateral. There’s only one rule of the form: have fun making it!

  1. Identify the text you want to blackout.
  2. Draw boxes over meaningful words, images, phrases, and ideas.
  3. Draw an image outline or arrows for reading the text, if necessary.
  4. Color it in!

Blackout Poem – Life on land : Why it matters

Declining faster than at any other time in human history.

Driving species to extinction and intensifying climate change.

Adaption and disaster they can deliver the impacts of change.

The disappearance of livelihoods in rural communities, increased carbon emissions, diminished biodiversity and the degradation of land.

An irreversible effect of human activity is species extinction, which upsets the balance of nature and makes ecosystems more fragile and less resistant to disruptions. A recent 1 million are now threatened with extinction more than ever before in human history.

A rise in intense and unsustainable farming, the increased use of exploitation of wildlife, and the climate crisis are all driving the increased emergence of diseases – diseases transmitted from wildlife.

Ever year, two million people die from neglected outbreaks can cause severe illness, deaths and productivity.

Consuming only what we need. Only take.
