Initial Narrative Concept & Inspiration

A Midsummer Night’s Cat

After reflecting on the feedback I received earlier, I decided to use several classic stories as templates for the game’s narrative.

I chose not to reference classic fairy tales, but instead selected Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is because the play offers richer depictions of fairies and is not as universally familiar as traditional fairy tales, which helps avoid the sense of predictability that can arise from overly fixed fairy-tale settings.

In addition, after further consideration, I made several adjustments to the story’s protagonist. Details can be found in: Character Design – Refined Version

Story

Your name is Nyanita, and you are a cat fairy that serves your Queen. Recently, your Queen Catania and King Cateron had a fight because of a small calico kitten. Cateron was jealous that the kitten occupied too much of the queen’s time, so he stole the kitten in the cover of the night.

Your queen is very angry, but she doesn’t want to meet Cateron again, so she has sent you out to steal back her favorite kitten on another night.

However, your King already knew the Queen’s plan. He sent out his most naughty servants, Chestnutleaf, Crowfeather, and Pumpkinseed, to deal with you. Moreover, along your path, he scattered countless fairy ring traps, each one waiting to ensnare you.

How will you overcome the mysterious fairy rings and defeat those troublemakers to complete your Queen’s mission?

The game’s story is based on the conflict over the Indian child between Titania and Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with the romantic elements removed. The protagonist is reimagined as a fairy under Titania’s command, embarking on an adventure to complete a secret mission for her.
