This is an early draft of the story that very simply uses the three act structure, laying out the main beats of the story.
I know where the story is set and what kind of items and elements can be used in the puzzles.

A moodboard where I was trying to figure out what the conflict or drama of the story could be.

These are possible narratives and quirks of the world for if it was a magical alternate world that the character gets transported too. I liked this narrative but felt it was missing something.
Week 10 Overhaul
The narrative for the game has been a struggle I went back and forth over it a lot and could not refine the small details. So, in week 10 I went to my lecturer and sought help, she agreed that something was missing, some kind of edge and gave me some guidance. During our conversation she mentioned the story being different each time and a theme of passing stuff down between generations. I then went to my family and peers to see what they think. After these conversations I felt a lot more confident and excited as some concurrent themes had emerged. The conversation with my family helped me expand on the generation theme by making the photographs belong to a parent or grandparent. I also had the idea of bringing in a photo development aspect this helps reinforce the generational angle as at the end the two generations come together to pass a technique down. I also think this ties nicely into the nostalgia angle as well, as I have fond memories of creatiung and being taught by my grandmother.
My next steps after these conversations were to take all of my thoughts and storyboard them.

This is a storyboard for what happens at the beginning of the game and the end. I decided to change it from it being an alternate world to taking place in the unnamed childs imagination, coming up with a story based on photographs she finds of her grandmother as a kid.
Story
Act 1
You play as a young child going through her grandmothers’ belongings, you find old photographs of her on holiday. You start creating a story with the photographs.
Act 2
The player takes on the role of the grandmother as a child in the made-up story. Here they must solve puzzles to collect there camera pieces.
Act 3
The player is abruptly ripped out of the story’s world; the child has spilled ink over the photos ruining them. She goes and gets her grandmother who comforts her and reveals that there is an undeveloped roll of film. The player helps to develop these new photographs.
After workshopping the narrative I am now pleased with it. The current iteration has room for imporvement but is a solid base for the story it also opens up the door to a different narrative experience, giving the player the hcoice to use certain photographs in the story in the order they would like gives room for a much bigger complicated narrative and is overall a really cool concept.
