Week 8 – How to Pitch your Game Idea 👾

Posted on November 17, 2025

(Phase 3 Development)

Monday

Today in class, Adam showed us the project proposal document to fill out a game idea you want to take forward, fleshing it out to help you make a solid idea. We also saw some previous students’ work, linked on Blackboard, which taught me how to pitch a game idea.

How to pitch a good game idea?

  • Descriptive, remind the audience of the genre
  • Proof of Concept (Prototypes/Concept Art/Sketches)
  • Genre, Audience, and why you would work on the game?
    • Who would be interested?

Previous Students’ Presentations I liked

These are some previous presentations from Alumni that I will use for inspiration with mine.

  1. This student’s presentation was concise yet colourful. Their ideas were based on the “Magical Girl”, mostly prominent in shoujo anime (anime targeted towards girls) It had a mood board as a background to demonstrate how the general colour palette of the game is, as well as other design influences. The next slide has a overview of the game to hook people into the general idea. The slide after that is a gameplay breakdown of the game loop and what players are expected to do, as well as the win and fail state. Lastly, they included a pros and cons list of why the game may or may not work. I think this is great as it ties back into why the creator wants to work on it but also addresses issues about scope, balancing and how to make it more exciting.

2. This student’s presentation was presented similarly to the previous one I looked at with some variants. The theme was Space. Instead of a short overview, they gave a full breakdown of the story, it’s genre, audience and age rating. The next 2 slides were a video and screenshots of the working prototype as well as assets. This is a good idea for people to see how the art style will look like. Lastly, there’s also a pros and cons list. Since this is a recurring theme in most of these presentations, I will most likely include it in mine as well.

Discussion of Game Ideas

During class, I also had a discussion with Amy, Jordan, Adam and 2 other classmates about our ideas and how to take our prototypes forward.

  • Maybe point-and-click instead of an idle clicker
  • It has the potential to have a game with 2 hours of content
    • Interesting idea, exploration game
    • Click on an object and explore it.
    • E.G., click on the photo and the character says, “That’s been there forever, for as long as I can remember
  • Focus on what the character is thinking; you can do that with point and click
  • Inky to write a narrative prototype
    • Ask Ross about it?
  • Pentiment (2022 Video Game)
