The Bloody Thing Lives! is a 2.5D isometric hybrid of Tower Defence game. The project explores the intersection of 80s inspired arcade aesthetics. You a supernatural human being with powers to harness blood into slimy creatures to defend your town’s gate from crazy masked barbaric cults. Place different beings into existence to do that job for you. Your town depends on it. The player must harness the cult’s blood resource to summon three kinds of “Blood-Slime” defenders. The goal is to survive ~13 waves of a masked cultist hoards, using strategic unit placement and strategic resource management to protect the town’s gate.

Creating a tower defence game, is an idea I had when thinking of what my gameplay could be like, while coming-up with ideas bouncing from survival to narrative driven games the idea that I could make a tower defence game only revealed to me while thinking of a game I want to play on my PlayStation ‘Orcs Must Die! 3. The thing that makes me the tower defence game the most is the pressure and strategy thinking before the start of the round, predicting where the enemies would go, and placing defences that work well together like the placing a ‘potato’ and a ‘pea shooter’ in plants Vs Zombies. The potato stops the zombies and the pea shooter shoots from afar which gives that satisfying effect seeing how defences work well with each other. In my game I want to do the same, instead of potato a Human Shield defence with a Ranger that can shoot from afar.

Different type of Defences:

  • Melee: Can eat & stab enemies that are in his radius
  • Ranger: Is the ranged defence, it would be able to be placed inside the gate where he can shoot between the over the bars at enemies.
  • Human Shield: Is a enormous abomination that that acts like a barricade enemies would have to destroy him to get through.

The Tower in my TD game would be The Gate, separating the player and the hordes of enemies. Between rounds the player can place defences outside the gate.

Genre

  • Tower Defence: Strategic placement of units to stop waves of enemies.
  • Real-Time Strategy (RTS): High-stakes timing, resource management, and active unit deployment.
  • Isometric, comedy, horror
  • 1980s inspired movie aesthetics and soundtrack.

Soundtrack inspirations for game:

The soundtrack I made:

Miami Vice (1984) –

ScarFace Soundtrack The style of music I would like in my game:

80s themed soundtrack with modern influences like:

Growing-up in the mid 2010s, MTV, Vevo

The nostalgia of my childhood watching idols like Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez all had similar party neo style music videos (sometimes) which that Retro theme from 80s clearly influenced it.

The colours, the synth soundtrack and plot from Let me Love you by DJ Snake is influenced from Blade Runner’s (1982) which that was influenced from the Cyberpunk comic style and ‘We found Love’ by Rihanna shot on 35mm film draw a large influence from 1980s media, especially films as well.

The 80s in general have influenced a lot of modern artist and filmmakers today who draw inspirations from that time period with constantly changing media combining old with modern to create something unique.

Even though the soundtracks of 80s horror movies are great, I would a variety of soundtrack some back-ground. Some taking the attention of the player. Doesn’t have to be a direct influence from the 80s, and a mixture of variety of genres is great, if you have any songs that would want to put in my game would be great I wanted to have an Indie song in there. The use of creepy vocals or background would be cool like in “For the damaged coda” and “Bad things”, Cults, and the entire of Life is Strange soundtrack, Spring breakers is good the original Blade Runner and Far cry 5 go creative. I’ll add more songs to my Spotify playlist. Even a guitar solo would be cool.
