Picking topics :
For week 1, I did a mind map of everything I enjoyed or was interested in. I decided my 4 topics would be:
- Folklore/myths/legends
- Magic
- Eras
- Sculpture
After reflecting, I realised that I could’ve done the lotus blossom technique that we learnt in week 1, so I decided to redo my mind maps and use the lotus blossom technique instead to help me pick my topics.

This was my first attempt at the lotus blossom technique. It was easier and felt more structured to generate ideas, but I also felt as if the topics I chose were too vague, so after some reflection. I decided to pick a few of the topics to make it less vague and easier to pick for the future themes.
Why movies? I love to watch films in my personal time; it’s something that everyone can do with their friends and family. I believe I would be an interesting concept if I created a game based from the theme ‘movies’. I feel as if there are many possibilities that I could go into. Like the making of the film, montages, different genres, or even solely focusing on a related word to films, such as ‘ratings’, because I frequently rate films on Letterboxd after seeing them.
Why music? Everyone has a favourite artist or genre of music. I believe that going down the music route would give me lots of choices to make a game idea from and go in-depth research on different eras of music. Furthermore, I feel that this topic will always be a timeless subject because music will never stop growing or producing.
Why folklore/myths/legends: I’ve always liked hearing about superstitions and watching many animated videos about these supernatural beings. I’d definitely be interested in diving deeper into folklore or researching further in different regions of the world to see what other tales I could find out about.
Why magic: I find the idea of magic very surreal and something I’ve always been mesmerised by since I was younger. The endless possibilities of this magic are what I truly enjoy about it; the Harry Potter films greatly influenced me.
- Eras: For this topic, I thought with was quite broad, so I’m still currently deciding between two of these eras: The Prehistoric Era and The Renaissance Era.
- The Prehistoric era: Since a young child, dinosaurs have captivated me; my favourite is the Spinosaurus! However, I would love to research deeper into many other enormous animals.
- The Renaissance era: I’m also interested because I admire the clothing, literature, and drama of the Renaissance; I’m also fascinated by that time period. I would be open to learning more about the past.
Sculpture: As my final topic, I chose sculpture, which I know the least about, but I still think it’s amazing, especially the lifelike statues. I chose this topic for two reasons: the veiled Virgin statue, my favourite statue to admire, and the weeping angels from Doctor Who, which used to always frighten and fascinate me.
