Mechanics:
The core gameplay of this project is inspired by block fill and single-path puzzle mechanics.
Each level presents the player with a grid-based space that functions like a maze. The player must navigate it using a continuous, non-repeating path to escape. While the underlying ruleset remains consistent, variations in block layouts create distinct challenges across levels.
Levels:
The game’s levels are structured into three main chapters, each centered around one boss character: Chestnutleaf, Crowfeather, and Pumpkinseed.
Each chapter consists of five smaller levels, built around a distinct thematic focus, roses, dew, and dancing fairies, which reference key narrative moments.
Win & Fail State:
Players are given a thyme wreath with ten pairs of leaves, representing ten chances to retry each mini-level. This creates a forgiving challenge: as long as players complete the level along a continuous, non-repeating path within ten attempts, the mini-level is considered successfully cleared.
Even if players fail the final mini-level of a chapter, they are returned to the start of that chapter to try again, as the game does not have a strict fail condition. This design encourages repeated attempts and exploration, guiding players toward ultimately completing the game.
Experience:
The mechanic is designed around low-pressure problem-solving rather than punishment. Failure encourages experimentation rather than frustration, supported by clear audio feedback and satisfying visual effects upon completion, creating a positive feedback loop.
