Unfortunately I couldn’t make it for Monday’s lesson because of travel issues, however I did tackle some of the idea generation tasks given to us by Adam.
One of these was describing the creation of one of our themes from the perspective of various viewpoints, e.g. those of a scientist, politician and philosopher. We would then imagine questions they would have and use them to generate potential game ideas.
For example, around the genesis of rave music and culture in the 90’s politicians would question the legality of the events where it would be consumed, whether they would promote drug use, or whether it could lead to other types of crime due to its proximity to football hooligan culture.
A scientist would also be interested in drug use and trying to study and ensure the safety of chemicals to reduce harm in young people.
A philosopher would have a lot of questions about how this would manifest in youth culture, whether it comes from a need to rebel and define oneself or whether these gatherings are more of a collective phenomenon inspiring unity among people of various backgrounds.
During this week I mainly took the time to flesh out the research for my main chosen theme of rave culture.
