Monday

---

Monday’s class opened with a talk from Adam introducing the project pitch document we would have to fill out by the end of the semester. The details we would need to include would be:

• Personal & Professional Goals
• Project Name, Role
• Abstract
  • Short description of the project and reasoning for choice
• Genre
• Hook
  • Catchy headline that gets players interested
• Anchor
  • What can players rely on as something familar/safe?
• Appeal
  • What immediately interesting and appealing things could players see in promotional content?
• Fun
  • Do you have a prototype that proves the “fun”?
• Inspirations
• Mechanics
• Experience
• Win/Fail State
• Audience
• Critical Analysis

Previous Presentations

In the class we went over some previous’ students presentations as examples of how to show our ideas.

One example I particularly liked was the space-themed one, as it included footage of a working prototype. This is really helpful as it immediately shows people the “vibe” of the game including art, sound and gameplay feel and also proves that a viable product is possible with your idea, making working on the project more appealing.

Pros and Cons

Several of the presentations also included a slide detailing the pros and cons of each project, for example, the space game listed benefits such as a wider possiblity for future mechanics to be added, but admitted that the project would most likely need extra time dedicated to programming and technical implementation. This is something I will defintely try and include in my work as while I definitely want to make my game seem appealing to others in the class, I also want to make any special considerations clear so anyone potentially joining my team will be able to work around them and get an idea of the scope of the project.

Game Mockups

---

Another idea I had for my game was to create mockups of screenshots for my three game ideas. I started with the main game idea based around sequencing blocks I had in mind, and created the following mockup in Figma based off of a Roland 909 Drum Machine:

This looked good but I wanted something more diegetic for the blocks to make it feel more “grungy”, so I made a fake “tape” effect using custom shapes and gradients:
