Erik’s Journal

My name is Erik. For this project my role was the technical artist, which acts as support and direction for both the artistic and technical aspects of game development.

However, my responsibilities also branched out of technical art, as I was responsible for planning the level design and concept art. I also explored sound design.

My contributions to the project included:

-For the first two weeks I focused on key research and concepting, as well as negotiating with our team to decide the scope of the game. This was most important as it determined the rest of the production process.

-Then I spent weeks three to six drawing the concept art and imagining how spatial design affects gameplay and narrative. After miscommunications with the world designer in week 5, I ended up remaking it into something that felt more intentional and made up a bit more for the lack of gameplay.

-In weeks six to eight I was creating particle effects and soundscapes to enhance the atmosphere for the player.

-In the final weeks I was creating the UI and the logo. For the playtest I designer the poster for the event as well as our own poster.

You can find my blog posts that elaborate a lot more on my process below.
