As part of Daydream I, Erik, helped develop some sounds for the game.
I used the software Reaper to aid this. Reaper is a DAW, a digital audio workspace that comes with a suite of plugins that means you can make music out of the box. While it looks a lot less prettier than other DAWs, it is very versatile and convenient to use once you get the hang of it.
Below is a screenshot of me adjusting the EQ on the bubble sound effect. I go more in depth on this in my blog, which can be accessed here.https://sites.wsagames.com/er7g24/

I used the site https://freesound.org/ to download some royalty free sound effects as I don’t have the recording equipment necessary to make my own.
Much of the workflow comes from tweaking the sounds until they fit just right. Usually, audio is in the post production process as it’s dependent on the accompanying visuals. However, due to the lack of time, I had to do it before the visual aspects were finalised.
I created a bubble popping sound effect that would play when buttons are clicked in the main menu, and an eerie audioscape that was a blend of running water, water droplets and some background sounds. The audioscape would loop in the background as the player explored the level. The intended effect was to immerse the player into the game’s environment and narrative.
