Art Station Inspiration for Environment

On https://www.artstation.com/?sort_by=community&dimension=all I began looking at underwater art to help inspire me.
The one environment which stands out to me is the one designed like a room with a door and mirrors. This is environment concept art created by Marcin Rubinkowski. This reminds me of the Fran Bow gameplay where you go from room to room.
My original idea before looking at this was to have a goal being the player to reach the surface of water manually however I really like the idea of having rooms instead.
The rooms could start off darker surrounded by sea life that only live at that depth to give a subtle hint of how deep in the water you are.

My Photos:

When I went to Egypt I went snorkelling in the Red Sea a few times and took some photo’s underwater of coral reef’s and the sea life.
I thought some of these pictures could be helpful for me with what colour palettes to use as well as certain textures.
These pictures could help me with later stages of the games as the colour pallet becomes more vibrant.
Photo colour palettes

In order to begin the process of creating environment concepts I had to make a list of objects I wanted to include and why. I did not use all of these ideas for room one but they could be used as the colour palette brightens.

These are some more photos of the sky and sea which I can use for the colour pallets of my environment.

Ideas:

For each room concept, before I started drawing I had to know what objects would be in each room for the puzzles so I made mind maps of my ideas for each room.
Initial ideas for room one:

Layout experiments:

On paper I experimented with the layout of some objects before drawing it digitally. I prefer the first layout.
Final Result:

Tools used:
- Procreate pencil
- Watercolour paintbrush
- Luminanse brushes- Light brush for glows and flare for light reflections on objects

Using the list of objects I wanted to include I began drawing my environment in Procreate. In procreate I used the little pine brush under drawing to outline everything. To give it a watercolour look like Child Light I used the watercolour brush under painting.
After everything was complete I have the 3 objects needed for the puzzle a subtle glow using the light brush under luminescence. As for the interactive objects I gave them a slight shine using Flare, also under luminescence.
The reaon I added these details is so the player can differientate interactive between interactive objects and objects with no purpose.
Broken clock inspiration:

On google I looked for inspiration for the broken clock on the wall. The one which stood out to me the most was the bottom right one. I liked how it wasn’t damaged to complete destruction and I like how the wall around it was more damaged.

Table inspiration:

Mirror inspiration:

For my mirrors I tried to go for something similar to the right, however to have more of a dark colour pallet I made them silver rather than gold.
Chair inspiration:

So the player can reach up to grab the mirror shard a chair has to be used to reach the table. Out of all these chairs I preferred the one in the middle as it went with the table the most
Three items inspiration:

For one of the retrievable items I chose to have an envelope. This is an important letter her mum had written to her.
On the left is my inspiration pictures for the envelope. I went for a basic drawing like in the top left corner and added some tape to it.

For the second item I chose to have a photo frame which would later be needed in the next room. At first I wanted to go for an antique look to match the mirrors however I went for a simple wooden frame as I didn’t want a small item like this to be too detailed. I then added cracked glass on top of the frame.

For the third item I wanted to include something to make the game more personal to me. These are pictures of my childhood teddy which I used as inspiration for the teddy item in this game.

I changed the colour to a dark brown to match the colour pallet more but kept the shape the same.
