Week 3

Articulating my essential experience:

Behaviours and Experiences– I would like players to feel exposed and alone

Exposed– When people are exposed they have lack of support around them and are in an open environment.

Alone– Limited interaction with others.

Why do I want to make a game based on anxiety?

Anxiety is something I have to face daily and to be able to express this into a game using key game mechanics would be really meaningful to me

Wheel of Emotions

If I were to put my sentence “exposed and alone” on this wheel I would place it between fear and sadness.

Choosing an Art Style

• Photorealism or Fantasy Realism
• Pixel art
• Mixed Media art
• Cel shading
• Hand-painted, freehand
• Minimalist
• Anime
• Cartoon

Based on my games research I would like to lean more towards surrealism and dark fantasy. My favourite art style out of the games I’ve looked at is Fran Bow.

Fran Bow features hand drawn illustrations in a child-like haunting aesthetic with the environment being in a dream-like state.

The art style in Fran Bow seems very similar to Tim Burton. Tim Burton is a unique artist who uses surrealism and a dark gothic aesthetic.

Tim Burton Films

In comparison to Fran Bow I can see a lot of similarities.
